Power shift reflection

Power shift reflection

Explain what the challenge was.

The challenge was to create a short film which presents the 180 degree rule while showing powershifts.

Talk through you initial response as a group - what ideas were discussed, what ideas were explored.

Our initial response as a group was to instantly think of an interrogation scene where there are some very strong power shifts being represented in the shots. We explored what the interrogation would be about and we collectavly talked about a murder type story.

Then analyse at least 3 key frames from your clip and explain why they are significant. Think about ways you could annotate your images (ThingLink, annotations on youtube - put them into a google slide?)

The first frame that I think was significant was the frame where Arthur was pacing back and forth as it shows that he is the centre of attention as he is always on the frame whilst he is pacing back and forth.

The second frame from my clip which I think was significant was the frame where there was a birds eye view of both the characters. This was significant as it shows that there is an equilibrium between the two characters at that moment. But after this it suddenly changes back to Arthur which shows how fast the power shift was.

The last frame which I think was significant was the frame at the very end where the camera zooms in on Arthur's face. This significant as arthur uncovers that the other character was the murderer of the victim, we zoomed in on the camera but we used a slider to slide out at the same time. This creates a cool effect with the camera as his surroundings are zooming out and he is staying in the same place.

What feedback did you get back from other groups - did they understand the meaning as intended?

The feedback that we got from the other groups was mostly positive, commenting on our good camera work and angles. One thing that we could have improved was the body tracking of Arthur when he was pacing around the room. The rest of the other groups did understand the meaning as intended as they shared their ideas on another doc showing us that they could see the power change within the short film.
