Jurassic park reflection
Find three shots you are proud of and match the clip well. (Screen grab and compare to the original) Explain why you think the shot is successful.
The first shot that I am proud of is the beginning scene where the two children are eating their food. I am proud of this because when put side by side with the original it really matches well. Another reason as to why I am proud of this scene is because to substitute the food on the table, we made our own food out of clay. This was a creative idea that we had and I feel that I am very proud of this.
The second shot that I am very proud of is the shot where the raptor is at the door. Like the first proud shot, my group also improvised. So instead of having a raptor, we had me dress up as a robber to get the same effect of the raptor, with it being scary. I was also proud of the camera shot here. We filmed it through a door window and in the final shot it looks like it was dark outside but we filmed it in a way where it was actually bright but it just looked dark.
The last scene where I am proud of is the scene where there is a push in shot of the two children hiding from the dino. I am proud of this clip because it really looked like the original. I am also proud of this clip because of the lighting we had. We had put up artificial lights in the room to make it look like the original clip, which is something that made it look more like the original clip.
Pick at least one shot you think could have been improved and explain why?
I think we could have improved on the close up shot on Vedant playing the boy in the clip. We could have done this clip better through placement of the camera and the camera angle as in the clip we had filmed, we were meant to do a rack focus on the thing behind him then have the camera focus back on the vedant. But instead it was a bit blurred. We could have improved this by changing the placing of the camera and changing the camera angle.
What part of the clip are you most proud of and why?
The clip that I am the most proud of is the clip where you see the robber walk in behind vedant. I am proud of this clip because we had to improvise as we did not have the correct lighting to make a proper shadow of the robber, which was what the original clip had. We improvised this by drawing the blinds down and then me (the robber) walking in behind the blinds with the sun behind me. This created a silhouette and made it look like the shadow in the original clip. But because we had filmed this so well I feel like it made the clip better.
What was the most difficult part to film and why? How did you overcome the difficulties?
The most difficult part we had to film was the silhouette clip with me (the robber) slowly walking outside behind the blinds. It was the most difficult part to film because we kept on trying to get the timing right as I was outside so I could not hear my group members say “action”. We overcame this by me having to count 10 seconds before I started my walk into the frame. We had to keep re doing this clip as either the timing was always off or vedant turned back to early (which is something he had to do for the shot).
Did you learn anything new from the process?
I learnt a lot of things from the process as I had not done film before so I was new to everything and new to all the equipment to do with the project. I had also learnt some valuable termanology about film which is going to help me through my course in Film.
Nice blog!
